Northwest Phoenix Humanists (NWPH) is a group of freethinkers seeking affiliation with the American Humanist Association. Membership in our group is free and informal at this time.
The reasons for starting this local group are:
- To support the American Humanist Association's efforts to bring about a progressive society where being good without a god is an accepted and respected way to live life in Arizona
- To fill the gap in the North and West sides of Greater Phoenix, Arizona area in regards to formalized Humanist groups and educational events
- To support sustainability of the Humanist worldview locally through creation of an inclusive community of like-minded individuals from all walks of life and age groups
- To provide events in support of Humanism beyond what is already offered in the NW Valley
Our Beliefs
Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without theism or other supernatural beliefs, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good. Click here for more information.
Our Events and Partners
You can find our events posted on the Phoenix Atheists Meetup Group (PAMG) and, if held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation (UU) of Surprise location, you may see them on the UU's calendar too. Both of those groups utilize those calendars for their own groups' purposes and also contain events unrelated to NW Phoenix Humanists.
Many groups in the Greater Phoenix area are like-minded, and you will see many events cross-posted on different Meetup Groups and calendars. These are all great organizations!
- PAMG provides mainly social events across the valley and has a large membership. PAMG members formed NWPH.
- UU of Surprise generously allows us to use their meeting space and has many atheists and humanists in their congregation. Humanists and atheists are actually an official part of the "theology" of Unitarian Universalism. In fact, Unitarian Universalists played a major role in establishing Humanism in the United States.
- Secular AZ is nonpartisan, nonprofit advocacy organization that protects the constitutional separation of church and state and educates lawmakers and the public to ensure freedom of conscience for Arizonans of all faiths and of none.
- Freedom From Religion Foundation's purpose is to support, inform the public about, promote, and defend non-theism, and to defend the Constitutional separation between religion and government.
- Humanist Society of Greater Phoenix (HSGP) is a Humanist group with a meeting facility in Mesa, Arizona.
